Cebu City reports 60% recovery rate for Covid-19

CEBU City now has a total of 2,583 cases of coronavirus disease (Covid-19) as of June 5, 2020, but the remaining active cases are now below the 1,000-mark.

Based on data obtained from Cebu City Hall, the city now has 995 active cases of Covid-19.

Mayor Edgardo Labella also announced 369 new laboratory-negative or recoveries on June 5, and 73 newly recorded Covid-19 cases.

The bulk of the new recoveries came from the Cebu City Jail with 339.

The others were from Barangays Basak Pardo (10), Mambaling (eight), Poblacion Pardo (four), Inayawan (two), San Nicolas Proper (two), and Duljo, Suba, Pasil and Ermita with one laboratory-negative each. With the new laboratory-negative cases, recoveries in Cebu City now total 1,557, which is equivalent to a 60.28 percent recovery rate.

Meanwhile, the 73 new positive cases came from Barangays Banilad (one); Basak Pardo (two); Bulacao (two); Luz (two); Basak San Nicolas (one); Calamba (two); Camputhaw (19); Capitol Site (one); Carreta (eight); Duljo (six); Ermita (one); Guadalupe (two); Inayawan (one); Lahug (two); Mabolo (two); Mambaling (two); Pahina Central (one); Pasil (two); Pit-os (one); Quiot (one); San Jose (one); Sambag 1 (one); San Nicolas Proper (one); T. Padilla (one); Talamban (one); Tejero (two); Tinago (two); Tisa (two); Busay (one); and two from the Cebu City Jail.

Labella also wrote on Facebook that there is one new fatality from Barangay Sawang Calero, bringing the total number of mortalities in the City to 31.

Other cases

In Mandaue City, four new Covid-19 cases and six recoveries were reported as of Friday.

The Mandaue City Public Information Office said of the four new cases, three are from Barangay Subangdaku: a 30-yearold male from Upper Malibu, a 35-year-old male from Villaver Compound and a 31-year-old female from Upper Malibu.

The fourth new case was a 58-year-old male from Sitio Orchids, Barangay Opao who died on June 3. As of Friday, June 5, the number of Covid-19 cases in Mandaue City has reached 306 with 42 recoveries and six deaths.

In Cebu Province, only one Covid-19 case from Asturias town was reported on Friday.

Asturias Mayor Jose Antonio Pintor confirmed that a 23-year-old man who works as a dietary utility worker at the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center (VSMMC) was considered the town's first Covid-19 case.

But Pintor clarified that the young hospital worker has not returned home to Asturias town since April 9.

Because of this, Pintor said they will no longer conduct contact tracing of the case's close contacts and relatives. / JJL, JKV, ANV
