ANGELES CITY--- Angeles City Councilor Jesus Jay Sangil urged the city council on Thursday, June 4 for a legislative inquiry on the alleged "skyrocketing" power monthly bill of hundreds of residents here.

Sangil, vice chairman of the city council on public utilities, said he received several calls and messages and read complaints in social media on consumers' electric bills.

"Sobra po, grabe ang tinaas ng bill namin!"

Sangil cited one residential house at Hensonville with a whooping P11,000 plus bill even if the house is unoccupied and the general power switch was off since before the lockdown in March of this year.

In other barangays, the councilor said the residents complained of two to three months higher bills by the Angeles Electric Corp. (AEC).

"From P4,000 arrears monthly naging P12,000 this month of May!" a household owner complained

Another one said "daig pa pu three months arrears ning current bill. Three times higher!”

Sangil said officials of AEC should explain the situation in public as he urged them to check their accounting system and power distribution.

"It's a double whammy! We are greatly affected by the pandemic daming nawalan ng livelihood, hirap ang ating mga kababayan, tapos biglang sasampalin mo ng sobrang taas ng electric bill! Hindi tama ,hindi makatao. Our people deserve an honest to goodness explanation. Huwag naman po kuryentehin ang kuwenta. Iwasto po ang mali," Sangil said.

Meanwhile, AEC Customers Relation Manager Myra Rivera said that they welcome any complaints coming from consumers regarding their electric bills.

Rivera advised those who have concerns on their electric bills to visit or call their office, adding that they can also take pictures of the meter to show the electric consumption.

"Ang mga nag re-read po ng meters ay mga tao po lamang at may instant po na baka magkamali sila. Kung hindi sila convinced na tama ang sinisingil sa kanila maari naman silang magsadya sa aming tangapan para ma-address po ang concern nila," Rivera said.
