Probe on Army officer’s killing ordered

A TOP police official has ordered his men to conduct investigation to unmask the suspects behind the killing of an Army officer in Zamboanga City.

Zamboanga City Police Office (ZCPO) Director Edwin de Ocampo told his men to look into all possible motives behind the killing of the officer.

The officer was shot and killed around 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Baliwasan Moret area along Governor Camins Avenue.

Killed was Major Javier Ignacio, 48, who was assigned at Western Mindanao Command (Wesmincom) headquarters.

Ignacio, a native of Tungawan town in Zamboanga Sibugay and residing in Kasanyangan, Zamboanga City, died on the spot with multiple gunshot wounds.

Investigation showed that Ignacio was driving his motorcycle coming from Wesmincom headquarters when repeatedly shot from behind by one of two men riding tandem on another motorcycle along Baliwasan Moret area.

The suspects fled after shooting Ignacio.

Policemen who rushed to the scene recovered six spent shells of caliber .45 pistol, the victim's service firearm with ammunition, as well as his motorcycle.

De Ocampo said the police consider personal grudge as the possible motive behind Ignacio’s killing. (Bong Garcia)
