Father, son among suspects in P5-billion drug haul

A FATHER was arrested while his son was killed in separate anti-drug operations that resulted in the seizure of over 800 kilograms of suspected methamphetamine hydrochloride worth more than P5.6 billion.

Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Archie Gamboa said Monday, June 8, that the two police operations conducted by the Philippine National Police (PNP) Drug Enforcement Group (DEG) last week were connected.

The first was a raid on a house turned shabu warehouse in Marilao, Bulacan on June 4 while the second was drug bust in a mall in Parañaque City on June 6.

Gamboa said Jin Long Cai, one of the two drug suspects killed in a shootout following a drug bust in Parañaque on June 6, was the son of Yuwen Cai, caretaker of the shabu warehouse in Bulacan.

“’Yung kanyang father ang nahuli doon sa Bulacan, ‘yung anak naman doon sa follow-up kaya pareho ang apelyido nilang Cai,” Gamboa said during a press conference in Camp Crame on Monday.

During the said press conference, the PNP presented over P827 kilograms of shabu with an estimated value of P5.6 billion, seized during the operation in Barangay Lias in Marilao.

Arrested along with the older Cai during the operation were his Filipina live-in partner Angela Miole Tulio and her sister Maria Lyn.

In a follow up operation in a mall along Diosdado Macapagal Boulevard two days later, operatives killed Jin Long Cai and his cohort Danny Apiga during a shootout following a drug bust.

Seized from them were 36 large packs of shabu wrapped in foil with Chinese marks and two .45 pistols. The illegal substance weighed around 36 kilograms and was estimated to have a street value of P244.8 million.

Gamboa said they were still in the process of identifying the source of the illegal drugs but they were certain that it was not locally made.

“As far as the source of drugs we still have to conduct the profiling and will coordinate with the foreign counterpart kung hanapin natin yung safe profile. So it's really important makakuha kami talaga ng profile nung dangerous drugs para makapag order ang court for us to conduct profiling,” Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) Director Wilkins Villanueva said.

“Kung matatandaan niyo nung December last year same packaging ‘yung biscuit na nakuha natin sa Siena, Quezon City. May profile na kami nakuha doon titingnan natin kung ano ang profile naman nitong bagong drugs na nakuha so that we will know kung anong bansa nanggagaling ito,” he added. (SunStar Philippines)
