BENGUET legislative caretaker Eric Go Yap is eyeing initial P25 million funding for the improvement of the province's sports complex in La Trinidad.

Yap said he has already submitted the funding to the Department of Public Works Highways for next year to initially start improvement of the development of the sports complex in Wangal, La Trinidad.

The lawmaker added that once the sports complex is fully developed, Benguet can be a potential host of upcoming local, regional, national and even international sports competitions in the future.

"That is my commitment for the people of Benguet," Yap said during a recent meeting with mayors from the 13 municipalities of the province.

Yap earlier eyed the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (Pagcor) to fund the upgrade of the Wangal Sports Complex covered court.

The lawmaker, who is also the ACT-CIS partylist representative, said he has already discussed the proposal with Pagcor chairperson Andrea Domingo.

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Yap said all expected funding for sports complex improvement will have to wait.

Benguet has been shying away in hosting the annual Cordillera Administrative Region Athletic Association (Caraa) because of the absence of a rubberized track oval, which is one of the requirements when hosting the regional sports meet.

Benguet Governor Melchor Diclas in a media briefing last year also assured the completion of the sports complex and other sports facilities in the province to help in the development of striving athletes who will compete in the local, national and even international sports events in the future.

At least P100 million is being earmarked for the completion of the gymnasium inside the sports complex.
