WELCOME to the “new normal,” where wearing protective gear is the latest trend. Big thanks to the creative geniuses who created protective gear with a dash of style, everyone can still be fashionable without compromising safety. Here are some of the new wardrobe essentials that should be in one’s closet.

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Coat by Mel Maria

Known as the engineer of fashion, Mel Maria creates a chic wrap-style PPE coat made of non-woven fabric and taffeta fabric, both water-resistant and washable. The stylish but efficient coat makes it easier for one to wear it on top of any ensemble. Mel Maria shared that he was inspired in making his own creation and giving it a twist when he saw Michael Cinco’s version of the PPE suit.

“There are limitless designs I offer for these PPE coats, and I consider my clientele’s requests such as the details they want for their coat,” he said. Creating this piece is his way of helping the community protect itself against the coronavirus, he added.

Face Shield by The New Normal

The New Normal started a line of face shields that provide better facial protection than masks, as well as being reusable, comfortable and fashionable. The face shields also prevent wearers from touching their faces and make it easier for wearers to communicate with others, since the mouth is visible. The face shield provides eye and face protection from respiratory droplets, or from touching the eyes with your hands as the virus is unable to penetrate the plastic shield.

The New Normal Shields are made out of PC material. They are light-weight, anti-fog and reusable with nine designs to choose from: Da Frontliner, a white clear shield; Clark Kent, a black clear shield; Harley Quinn, a reflective multicolor shield; Batman, an all-black shield available in gloss and matte; Quicksilver, a reflective silver shield; Bumblebee; a yellow-tinted shield; Cyclops, a red-tinted shield; and Mystique, a blue-tinted shield. The brand dedicated the names of the face shields to pop culture superheroes.

UV Sanitizing Device by LYFSABER

Sanitizing and disinfecting anything before touching it is a must, including smartphones, grocery products or containers of food and drinks ordered online. UV Sanitizing Device LYFSABER specializes in UV-C, sanitizing items up to 99.9 percent. UV-C deactivates the DNA or RNA of germs, viruses and bacteria preventing them from reproducing and being infectious. Choose a UV sanitizing weapon: the Lyfsaber Germawand; the Lyfsaber Pocket, a travel-sized version of its Lysaber Germawand; the Lyfsaber Germawand Chic, if one wants something fashionable and posh; or its Lyfsaber Dentacare, the best protection for one’s teeth.

The brand also offers anti-bacterial lamps, good for small to big spaces; the Lyfsaber Box to Go, a collapsible UV sanitizing device; the Lyf Saber Germ Coffin for your phone; the Lyfsaber Platinum Box for bigger items and; the Lyfsaber Box, a dryer and UV sterilizer in one.

Origamask by Chady Pantaleon

Because lipstick is out, mask is in. Makeup artist Chady Pantaleon made Origamask, a light-weight mask made from recycled paper material that one can wear on top of his face mask to add style and aesthetic to the whole look. One can choose what color and design of paper he wants for his origamask from black, red, nude to patterned paper.

To make everything more magical and vivid, Chady included a sticker that can launch an augmented reality experience through smartphones.

Face Mask by D’Bear Tea and Tee

On the first few weeks since the pandemic started, masks have been sold out. People started producing cloth masks as an alternative to surgical masks. D’Bear Tea and Tee offers free whimsical cloth masks made of cotton and/or scuba fabric with five designs to choose from—all in free-size when you purchase at least five cups of milk tea from the store. The designs are spin-offs from its tees inspired by luxurious labels and cartoon characters.

Wearable Air Purifier by DrKLEEN

DrKLEEN’s air purifying system works by emitting negative ions through its brush outlet and creating a three-feet protective field around a person 24/7. With its Air Purifier Buddy Pro and Air Buddy Posh (these devices are miniature air ionizers that are usually worn around the neck), airborne pollutants, floating viruses and bacteria from one’s breathing space will be removed.

These devices use negative ions to clean the air of allergens and contaminants before one breathes them into his lungs. Once negative ions are released, they attract and bind pollutants, and charge neutralization occurs. Once air pollutants are gathered and clustered, they fall to the ground allowing you to breathe fresh clean air.

Best thing: DrKLEEN Air Buddy Posh looks cute and comes in three colors: pink, white and black. The chic and sleek Air Purifier Buddy Pro comes in black. Both devices can also be used as a mini home and car air purifier.
