Teodoro promises infrastructure to make Cebu ‘premier province’

IF ADMINISTRATION candidate Gilbert Teodoro Jr. wins the presidency, he wants to model the Philippines after the One Cebu party.

“From Sugbu-ak to One Cebu,” Teodoro said during the One Cebu opening salvo in the southern town of Argao last Friday night.

An audiovisual presentation was shown explaining the party’s history—how it was formed when three former congressmen planned to create three more provinces out of Cebu.

Progress will elude the country if it is not one, Teodoro said.

And because he feels well-loved in Cebu, Teodoro said Cebu will be a priority for him, especially developing the province’s infrastructure.

He promised “infrastructure to make Cebu a premiere province like additional airports, seaports and bridges that will link Cebu to other provinces.”

The bridges that will link Cebu to other provinces will also pave the way for the creation of “One Visayas.” The three Visayan regions have linked up for a program that encourages the exchange of products among different provinces of the three regions.

Sen. Ramon Revilla, a candidate endorsed by One Cebu, also promised to help Cebu’s infrastructure, since he is currently chairperson of the committee on public works.

“We will also make Cebu a tourism capital not only in the Philippines but in the rest of the world,” Teodoro said.

Sen. Lito Lapid said he also wants to prioritize tourism in Cebu. He is grateful to get the endorsement of One Cebu and promised that tourism will be a priority, especially since his son Mark Lapid is the acting general manager of the Philippine Tourism Industry.

Capital

In addition, Teodoro wants to make Cebu the “services capital, model for sustainable development, model for ecological harmony and cognitive governance.”

Teodoro also said he is prioritizing campaigning in the grassroots level because this is where the contest really is.

He announced to reporters late Friday night that he will not be joining any more national debates because he is going to focus on the field campaign.

The national psyche, said Teodoro, is centered on survey results showing Liberal Party’s Sen. Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III and Nacionalista Party’s Manuel Villar having a head-to-head match.

Teodoro met up with the One Cebu Party in Argao for its opening salvo. Party members were making the rounds in the 15 towns of the second district.

Lapid caught up with the party also in Argao.

Revilla and League of Municipalities of the Philippines president Ramon Guico caught up with the group in Santander, but formally joined the campaign in Oslob. (JGA)
