Samal plans to add more quarantine facilities

THE City Government of the Island Garden City of Samal (Igacos) is planning to add more quarantine facilities to prepare for any untoward increase of the novel coronavirus (Covid-19) infection.

Igacos Mayor Al David Uy said he will be asking the local finance committee to look for a budget to fund the construction of additional facilities with 20 to 30 rooms.

"Nagahunahuna ko nga maghimo og additional quarantine facilities kay naa pa man tay area diri sa among evacuation center. Naa pay 2,000 square meters (sqm) diha. I think we can still put 20 to 30 rooms (We are thinking of putting up additional quarantine facilities with 20 to 30 rooms because we still have about 2,000 sqm. near the evacuation center)," he said.

"Naga prepare mi but gina-ampo namo nga unta dili ni magamit (We are just preparing but we hope we will not reach the point of using it)," he said.

He clarified the present quarantine facilities in the city are still accommodating the present active cases but they are just preparing for the worst.

"Sa karon, I think I can say it is enough. Makaya pa naa tay mga 80 rooms na available (Right now, we still have 80 rooms available and I can say it is enough)," he said.

Uy said the city has three active Covid-19 cases but are housed in the quarantine facility in Barangay Licup since they are asymptomatic.

He said mild to severe cases will be admitted directly at the Davao Regional Medical Center in Tagum City, Davao del Norte, citing the protocol set by the Department of Health.

As of June 6, Igacos have seven Covid-19 confirmed cases with one recovered, three deaths, and three active asymptomatic cases.
