Yanson siblings to question arrest warrants in appellate court

THE four Yanson siblings whose family runs the largest bus company in the country are set to question before the Court of Appeals the arrest warrants for alleged carnapping charges issued by a court in Bacolod City.

Roy, Emily, Ricardo Jr. and Ma. Lourdes Celine Yanson, also known as the Yanson 4 or Y4, will run to the appellate court to question the issuance of the warrants of arrest by the Bacolod Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 53 for alleged carnapping of vehicles owned by the company.

The case stemmed from a complaint filed by an employee of Vallacar Transit Inc. (VTI) whom the Y4 identified to be with their rival siblings.

Since July 2019, the Y4 has been involved in an intra-corporate dispute with their two other siblings, Leo Rey Yanson and Ginette Dumancas, or the Y2.

The Y4 who claim to have possession of 61 percent majority shareholdings in VTI are facing arrest.

It can be recalled that the four siblings, as major stockholders of the Rural Transit Mindanao Inc. (RTMI), convened in Cagayan de Oro City last February 12 for the annual stockholders' meeting.

RTMI is one of the companies under the Yanson Group of Bus Companies which operates in Mindanao.

"There can be no basis for warrants of arrest to issue as the question of who between the two contending groups legally manages and operates VTI has not yet been resolved by the same court. The resolution of that issue will also determine the authority of the complainant to file suit involving VTI vehicles. By issuing arrest warrants without first resolving who between the 2 groups has authority to manage VTI and file complaints for it, the result of the pending intra-corporate case is now a foregone conclusion," the legal counsel for the Y4 said in a press statement.

The four Yanson siblings remain confident that truth, justice and the rule of law will prevail, and that the charges against them "will be proven unauthorized and untrue."
