TWO Chinese nationals who were allegedly among those responsible for the kidnapping of three other Chinese nationals were killed on Thursday morning, June 11, in Angeles City in Pampanga.
Lieutenant Colonel Villaflor Bannawagan, chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP) Anti-Kidnapping Group (AKG) in Central Luzon, said the Chinese nationals were in a Hyundai Starex van in Forest Park around 9 a.m. Thursday.
Bannawagan said members of the AKG and Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) in Angeles City were conducting a background investigation on the case when they chanced upon the van.
The color, model and license plate of the said van matched those of the van that the suspects allegedly used based on the accounts of two of their cohorts who were arrested in Pasay City on June 6.
Bannawagan said policemen were fired upon as they approached the van, supposedly to verify its ownership.
This led to a shootout that killed the suspects and wounded a certain Police Captain Diaz.
Recovered at the crime scene were two caliber 45, one M4 5.56 caliber and the Hyundai Starex.
The three victims were rescued in an operation of the AKG and Angeles police on June 1.
They were all workers of a Philippine Offshore Gaming Operator (Pogo) firm. They said they were kidnapped after failing to pay their debt. (Third Anne Peralta-Malonzo)
