SEVERAL areas in Davao City experienced moderate to heavy rains on Sunday, June 14, 2020, for several hours.

However, the Davao City Disaster Risk Reduction Office (CDRRMO) said they have not monitored flooding incidents especially in areas near riverbanks.

Rodrigo Bustillo, CDRRMO operations officer, said all river channels were at a safe level.

“Dili pa kaayo kusog ug dugay ang mga ulan, kay mao pa pag sugod sa rainy season (As the rainy season starts, the rain is usually light),” Bustillo said.

According to the CDRRMO operation center weather update as of 12:20 p.m. on June 14, several areas in Davao City experienced heavy rains brought by the intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ).

The area of District 3 (Toril, Tugbok, and Calinan) experienced light to intermittent moderate rain; District 2 (Buhangin, Agdao, and Bunawan) experienced intermittent moderate rain to light showering; while District 1 (Talomo and Poblacion) experienced cloudy with moderate to intermittent light rain.

Meanwhile, the state weather bureau advised taking precautionary measures against flash floods and landslides, which are usually caused by heavy rains.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) announced on Friday, June 12, the start of the rainy season in the country.
