THE death of two Cebu policemen from coronavirus disease (Covid-19) brought the mortalities among Philippine National Police (PNP) personnel to saven as of Monday, June 15, 2020.

PNP spokesperson Brigadier General Bernard Banac said the two policemen from Cebu were given the patient codes PNP Patients 390 and 400. They were 46 and 29 years old, respectively.

Banac said PNP Patient 390 was admitted to a hospital on June 4 due to fever, cough, shortness of breath, diarrhea, dizziness, and nausea.

A rapid test yielded a positive result on June 10. On June 14, he was declared dead.

PNP Patient 400 was admitted to a hospital on June 7 due to a motor vehicular accident. A rapid test yielded a positive result on June 10. He also died on June 14.

Banac said a total of 414 policemen have tested positive for the novel coronavirus, or Sars-CoV-2, which causes Covid-19.

Most of them contracted the virus while performing their duties related to the implementation of a community quarantine, a measure aimed at containing Covid-19.

In Cebu City alone, 27 policemen have tested positive for the virus.

Of the 414 infected policemen, 240 have already recovered while 136 patients are in quarantine facilities, 15 are admitted in hospitals and 16 are undergoing home quarantine.

Banac said 699 cops were also probable cases while 873 were suspected of having contracted Covid-19.

Banac reiterated the PNP leadership’s call to all their men to strengthen self-care to avoid getting infected.
