WELL-MEANING individuals never cease to care for the good of others especially in this time of the coronavirus disease pandemic.

A little help can do more to people who have no choice but to go to hospitals or to frequently stay there because it is where they work.

The Rotary Clubs Council of Presidents (RCCP) in Negros Occidental went out of their way to provide helpful “disinfection tunnel” that will serve as an additional preventive measure in the fight against Covid-19 pandemic.

The inflatable virus buster sanitation tent was officially turned over to the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital (CLMMRH) through Dr. Julius M. Drilon, medical chief over the weekend.

The Rotary Club of Rogue Gateway in Oregon, USA funded this through the efforts of their member, Tommi Drake, who recently visited Negros Occidental under the Rotary Friendship Exchange (RFE) program between Districts 3850 and 5110.

The funds, amounting to $2000, was coursed through RCCP Council President Sugar Ababao of the Rotary Club of Bacolod North which was used to purchase the sanitation tent that the council hopes will “provide safe protection for everyone, especially the health workers and the patients of the hospital from further spreading the virus.”

Mel Rañola of Wildboar Construction and Supply that installed the tent said that their disinfecting solution is “safe for human health,” and the mist spray is operated via a sensor whenever a person enters the tent. Rañola also said their company is donating a one-month supply of tent solution for free.

Drake, who facilitated the fund donation, was with a group of 12 Rotarians from various clubs in Oregon who were supposed to do a 3-week tour of Western Visayas under the friendship exchange program last March. They had to cut short their visit when the country announced it will be under lockdown. This was Drake’s second visit to the region as she was also the Group Study Exchange program team leader in 2013.

Furthermore, the RFE Oregon team will also be donating an additional $2,130, of which $850 will be gifted to the Human Milk Bank project of Rotary at the Teresita Lopez Jalandoni Provincial Hospital in Silay City, $850 to the Immaculate Conception Health Center in Victorias City for clinic supplies and $500 for the Weavers Guild in Iloilo City to improve their working conditions. All of this they got to visit in their short time here.

A deed of donation was signed as well by Dr. Julius Drilon representing CLMMRH. Assistant Governor Mate’ Espina signed on behalf of RC Rogue Gateway and Ababao represented the council.

Also present were presidents of various Rotary Clubs in the province as well as members of the RFE Negros Team – Toks Lopez, Lito Sion, Maricar Octaviano and Joel Jaranilla who along with Espina visited Oregon, USA last September.
