Cagayan de Oro City to allocate P30M for new school year

MAYOR Oscar Moreno said Tuesday, June 16, that the City Government of Cagayan de Oro will allocate P30 million for the modular learning program of the Department of Education (DepEd)-Northern Mindanao for the city's public schools.

The modular learning program will allow the country's public schools to adopt a combination of face-to-face learning, online instruction, home schooling and distance learning to allow students to continue their education without compromising the minimum health safety protocols like social/physical distancing amid the pandemic.

"Nag-istorya nami ni Division Superintendent Limbaco (Schools Division Superintendent Cherry Mae Limbaco). She came up with the figure nga kinahanglan nya'g P71 million and giingnan ko siya siguro P30 million makaya nato," Moreno said.

"We will help. Education has never been a debatable issue as far as the City Government is concerned," he said, adding there are school building projects that are scheduled for completion and turnover this year.

Enrollment for the school year 2020 is ongoing and opening of classes is scheduled sometime in August.

On Monday, June 15, President Rodrigo Duterte announced that they are considering the purchase of radios costing P300 each to aid students in far-flung areas who have no access to television, cellphones, and internet connection.

Asked for his reaction, Moreno said the city's radio station has no problem with the arrangement.

"Ang radyo dinhi sa ato dili problema sa Cagayan de Oro," Moreno said.
