AIMED to standardize the teaching and learning of the sports, the Department of Education (DepEd) through the Bureau of Learner Support Services-School Sports Division (BLSS-SSD) has developed the DepEd Sports Manual for each of the 27 events played in the Palarong Pambansa.

This program will cover teaching approaches and techniques in sports, competition rules and other information relevant to understanding the sports during this time of the pandemic.

To achieve this goal, BLSS Director IV Rizalino Jose Rosales wrote AFC Licensed coach and instructor John Carmona to assist the department in creating instructional videos for each of the 27 sports to be used by the coaches and students in the field.

These materials will be initiated with the help of Palarong Pambansa tournament managers and Sports Manual writers, and to be used by DepEd during this time of crisis.

For Carmona, it was an honor for considering him and his training exercises to draw the manual in sports, particularly in football.

“This will help the teachers and coaches under DepEd to understand the criteria in grassroots and youth coaching and training from simple to complex exercises,” he said.

“Since the start of the pandemic and lockdown, I started to do home exercises for different age categories in order for the players to do at home. It’s easy to understand and they can do it alone, or within-pair, and small groups,” he added.

Carmona further stressed that the exercises were posted on social media and opened for everyone.

“And, DepEd through Rufino Arellano acknowledged my exercises are ideal for the manual where they initially asked me to share it,” he said.
