Custodio: Covid greetings to all

HOW is everyone? It's been three months since Covid-19 hit us head-on. How are you doing? A lot has happened and as we try to adapt to the new normal, we just had to learn to get by and move on with what we have at the moment!

There has been so much noise, so many arguments on what should and shouldn't have been done, but honestly, if we just followed the basics (handwashing, social distancing, masks, stay home) and took it to heart to do, we would probably be better off than where we are now. I say this not disregarding the fact that we are better off than more progressive countries. I think we are doing a good job flattening the curve albeit the fact that we have been seeing surges in our numbers lately. But of course, we can do better, right?

Aren't you glad that you are in Davao? I am. I am happy to be here and proud to belong to a City that follows the rules and takes its duty as its inhabitant seriously. It makes me smile when even our security guard frontliners strictly implement sanitizing and thermal scanning. I feel proud when they ask for my FM pass just to make sure I have the right to be out.

The winners of the ECQ contest have been fed the 10,000 orders of Chickenjoy and it just makes me laugh that people who are not from Davao seemed offended by it! In this difficult time, I think it is important for each of us to find that ray of light amidst the darkness. We should be looking out for silver linings in gray clouds rather than concentrate on how strong the rain is falling.

I believe that we are doing much better than other places in the Philippines. As we continue observing the proper decorum while fully shifting to the new normal, we also psychologically lift ourselves by being accepting and by making ourselves comfortable amidst the discomfort that the pandemic has brought upon us. Although we are fully aware of its economic implications, we remain positive that we can get through this.

We have done a lot to thrive without compromising our health by staying home. We are buying online and bartering like crazy and in the process have fostered new friendships and hope for those who have been overwhelmed by this scourge. We have found humor and humanity amidst the stark reality that the pandemic may last longer than we want and that is a really good thing. Good job, DavaoeƱos! Padayon!
