MORE than 3,000 buses and 1,500 modern jeepneys were expected to operate on Monday, June 22, said Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) spokesperson Celine Pialago.

During a Laging Handa public briefing, Pialago said the agency allowed the operation of 4,600 buses in Metro Manila during the first phase of the general community quarantine (GCQ).

“Sa Metro Manila mayroon po tayong 4,600 buses pero nauna na pong bumiyahe ‘yung nasa 1,200 noong phase one po noong GCQ so more or less 3,400 po ang inaasahang madadagdag for phase two ng GCQ sa usapin po ng public transportation,” Pialago said.

According to Pialago, 1,500 modernized jeepneys were already operational as of Monday.

“Para naman po sa mga ilan nating modernized jeepneys nasa 1,500 po iyong inaasahan na bi-biyahe simula po ngayong araw,” she said.

In a statement on Sunday, June 21, the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) said it has allowed the operation of 308 modern jeepneys after complying with the Omnibus Franchising Guidelines (OFG) of the agency.

The said vehicles will serve the following Metro Manila routes:

1. Novaliches – Malinta via Paso de Blas

2. Bagumbayan Taguig – Pasig via San Joaquin

3. Fort Bonifacio Gate 3 – Guadalupe-Market Market-ABC Loop Service

4. Pandacan – Leon Guinto

5. Quezon Avenue – LRT 5th Avenue Station

6. Cubao (Diamond) – Roces Super Palengke

7. EDSA Buendia-Mandaluyong City Hall via Jupiter, Rockwell

8. Divisoria-Gasak via H. Lopez

9. Punta-Quiapo via Sta. Ana

10. Boni Pinatubo – Stop and Shop, vice versa

11. Boni Robinson’s Complex-Kalentong/JRC vice versa

12. Nichols-Vito Cruz

13. Filinvest City Loop

14. Alabang Town Center (ATC)-Ayala Alabang Village

15. Vito Cruz Taft Avenue-PITX Loop Service

“The OFG-compliant non-aircon PUJs will collect a minimum fare of P11 for the first 4 kilometers and P1.50 for each succeeding kilometer. OFG-compliant airconditioned PUJs will collect P11 for the first 4 kilometers and P1.80 for each succeeding kilometer,” the LTFRB said.

According to Pialago, the MMDA instructed bus operators to ensure health safety protocols in the public vehicles.

“Sa pakikipagpulong po sa mga bus operators naging maliwanag po sa kanila na dapat po ay 50 percent capacity lamang ang mga city buses gayon na rin po ang mga modern jeepneys,” Pialago assured.

She said that health protocols include plastic dividers between passengers, and deploying traffic martials who will ensure that overcrowding in bus stations will be minimized.

“Napaghandaan po ito, nagkaroon po ng mga divider na plastic sa mga pasahero, mayroon din pong mga traffic marshalls,” Pialago said.

“Kaya nga po dito sa ating mga bus routes, for example, Edsa, apat na bus po iyong mama-maximize natin kung saan mamomonitor po iyong mga buses na magsasakay,” she added. (SunStar Philippines)
