THE Department of Health (DOH) on Wednesday, June 24, reported an additional 357 fresh cases and 113 late cases of coronavirus infections, bringing the total case count in the country to 32,295.

The agency also reported that 214 more patients have recovered from the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19), increasing the recoveries to 8,656, while an additional 18 mortalities were listed, raising the death toll to 1,204 as of 4 p.m. Wednesday.

DOH Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said only five of every 1,000 patients are suffering from the severe form of Covid-19 while only one of every 1,000 is in critical condition.

“Mataas ang bilang ng mga kaso natin sa mga nakalipas na araw...Bagama’t tumataas ang mga kaso, we can see that based on our data from June 23, 96.2 percent of the cases are mild cases. Samantala, only 0.5 percent ang severe cases at 0.1 percent ang critical cases,” Vergeire said.

“Ibig sabihin, mataas ang porsyento na makaka-recover tayo sa sakit na ito,” she added.

(We had a high number of cases in the past several days. While the cases are increasing, 96.2 percent of the cases as of June 23 are mild while only 0.5 percent are severe and 0.1 percent are critical. This means that there is a high probability that we will recover from this disease.)

Among the fresh cases, 159 were from the National Capital Region (NCR), 141 from Central Visayas and 57 from other regions. Considered fresh cases are those whose test results were released only in the last three days.

Of the late cases, 66 from NCR, four from Central Visayas and 43 from other regions. Late cases are those results that were released at least four days ago but were validated by the Epidemiology Bureau only in the last 24 hours.

The DOH recorded on Tuesday, June 23, the highest single-day increase in fresh cases at 789 since it distinguished between fresh and late cases of infection on May 29. (Marites Villamor-Ilano/SunStar Philippines)
