In Lapu-Lapu City, 25 new cases were reported by health authorities.

Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Junard Chan announced on June 24 that he has tested negative for Covid-19.

He said his latest test result came out on June 24. Chan announced last June 12 that he tested positive of Covid-19. He was first swabbed on June 10.

As of June 23, Lapu-Lapu City had 304 Covid-19 cases. Chan said the cases increased due to the contact tracing efforts done by the authorities.

After learning that some of the fresh Covid-19 cases in Lapu-Lapu City were employees from different commercial establishments in the city, Chan urged workers to avoid eating their meals inside eateries.

This was because social distancing cannot be observed inside eateries with small spaces and the people who eat in such establishments would be vulnerable to the virus as they take off their masks before eating their meals.

National tally

The Department of Health (DOH) reported on June 24 an additional 357 fresh cases and 113 late cases of coronavirus infections, bringing the total case count in the country to 32,295.

The agency also reported that 214 more patients have recovered from the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19), increasing the recoveries to 8,656, while an additional 18 mortalities were listed, raising the death toll to 1,204 as of 4 p.m. Wednesday.

Among the fresh cases, 159 were from the National Capital Region (NCR), 141 from Central Visayas and 57 from other regions. Considered fresh cases are those whose test results were released only in the last three days.

Of the late cases, 66 from NCR, four from Central Visayas and 43 from other regions. Late cases are those results that were released at least four days ago but were validated by the Epidemiology Bureau only in the last 24 hours.

The DOH recorded on Tuesday, June 23, the highest single-day increase in fresh cases at 789 since it distinguished between fresh and late cases of infection on May 29. (JJL, MVI, NDT, LMY, GCM)
