“I had a stillbirth with our daughter Aria in November 2016. Since then I had two additional miscarriages. Ang akong first four months before sa pandemic easy ra kaayo.

“Kausa ra intawon ko nakapa-ultrasound pag-April and then one checkup in May.

During the lockdown wa jud koy gawas-gawas except during my ultrasound and checkup. My husband went out once every two weeks for groceries and my medicines. He has a strict routine he follows with facemask, gloves, spraying with Lysol, hand washing, alcohol, showering and taking vitamin C.”

Hinuon pareho silang way gibating sintomas.

“It only goes to show that no matter how careful you are, there is always a possibility. From the morning of May 22 when I got my results, my husband and I had to distance ourselves from each other. He had a weak positive antibody test but the virus is too new to know how that affects future immunity. I prayed a lot during those days. I also recorded videos for some projects which helped keep me busy and keep my mind off of things,” paambit ni Anna.

“I tested positive on May 21 and was scheduled to be re-tested on May 30. But then in the early hours of May 27 I went into labor. We called my doctor and I asked to be re-tested. So before entering the hospital and while in labor I took another swab test. The results would be released at 3pm. My labor went pretty fast and I was already pushing at 2pm and we were still waiting for the results. Since I was still considered as Covid positive, the team of doctors had to wear the Covid PPE suits and everything. At 3:15pm the results came back negative and the doctors were all shouting: “Negative! Negative!” After pushing without delivering for 2 full hours they made the decision for CS. When my daughter Amaria came out she was immediately handed over to a neonatal specialist and her team who were also in full Covid gear. Thank God that I had tested negative because it allowed the pedia team full options for life saving procedures.”

Amaria Michelle Fegi Brown, Ssssuper Ka!

What exactly happened after she came out?

When she first came out she wasn’t breathing or moving and she was bluish. But she did have a pulse so they started resuscitating her. The doctors, Dra. Virginia Abalos and Dra. Dahlia Go, are two people that I can never thank enough. They do a scoring on the health of the baby at birth and Amaria scored a 1/10 in her first minute. At five minutes she was at 5/10 and fifteen minutes she was already up to a 9/10. Amaria Michelle is definitely our miracle baby.

So how is she doing now?

Amaria Michelle is doing so great at home. Ingon siya na she is a perfectly healthy baby. She’s already growing so much!

Asa gikuha iyang pangan?

Adam and I both have names starting with the letter A, so we knew that would be the start. Gusto sab namo na something nga ma-tribute namo sa una namong baby, si Aria, who was stillborn in 2016. Amaria means “Gift from God” or “Promised from God.”

Kanus-a ang bunyag?

We don’t have a date yet because of all the restrictions. A very longtime and special friend, Father Angelo Te, is supposed to do the baptism but he is in Manila so I’m not sure how we will do that. As for ninang and ninong, we don’t really want a long list, only a small group who we know will always be there for Amaria.

How’s life now being mom and dad for the first time?

It is definitely a learning experience. I am breast-feeding so most of our routine is set around that. Luckily though she does pretty well sleeping at night. No matter how much research we tried to do beforehand, there is so much to learn. Plus every baby is different so what might be great advice for one, or even for most, might not work for your baby. We are learning the cycle of a newborn, going without sleep. But this is what we have been wanting for so many years so we cannot complain.
