THE Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) Mindanao plans to hold a Sports Coaching Certification Level 1 program via online with its first batch tentatively set in August as the country is still fighting the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) pandemic, which resulted to quarantine control measures that prohibit mass gathering including sports activities.
PSC Commissioner Charles Raymond A. Maxey, in an interview with SunStar Davao, said the online coaching course is still being finalized pending approval of the PSC Board.
He said, “it will be similar to the ones we conducted in Tagum City before.” However, it will be held virtually.
Each batch will be limited to 100 invited Mindanao participants coming from different local government units (LGUs), Department of Education (DepEd) and private schools, colleges and universities.
PSC, in coordination with the Philippine Sports Institute (PSI), will tap resource speakers.
It can be recalled that in the first two batches of the National Sports Coaching Certification program at the Davao del Norte Sports and Tourism Complex in Tagum City in 2018 and 2019, Level 1 course featured Sports Philosophy and Principles of Coaching, Sports Ethics, Sport Physiology, Sport Psychology, Talent Identification, Sport Pedagogy, and Sport Specific Skills Training.
Some 100 attendees joined the course in each batch.
The PSC Visayas, headed by Commissioner Ramon Fernandez, also plans to conduct a similar online coaching certification course.
