Zamboanga City to have another Covid-19 testing lab

ANOTHER coronavirus disease (Covid-19) testing laboratory is set to be opened next month in Zamboanga City.

The testing facility, which will be the third, is the Biomolecular Laboratory of the Philippine Red Cross (PRC)-Zamboanga chapter at Rizal Street in Zone IV village.

Secretary Carlito Galvez Jr., National Inter-Agency Task Force Covid-19 chief implementer, upon the request of PRC Chairman Richard Gordon, on Thursday, June 25, delivered the equipment for the laboratory.

These are following: three Bio-Safety Cabinets; two Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) machines, three Pharmaceutical Refrigerators, one auto clave, three acid extraction system, and laboratory equipment accessories.

The PRC Biomolecular laboratory, which has the testing capacity of 2,000 tests daily, will greatly enhance the Covid-19 testing capability in Zamboanga City and the region once it will become operational, according to Galvez.

There are two Covid-19 testing laboratories at present in Zamboanga City and these are the Zamboanga City Medical Center (ZCMC) Genexpert lab and the Department of Agriculture-ZCMC PCR laboratory.

PRC Governor Celso Lobregat has thanked Gordon, PRC Board of Governors and Administration for prioritizing the establishment of the PRC Biomolecular Laboratory in the city. (SunStar Zamboanga)
