Coronavirus infections rise by about 1,000 new cases again

THE Department of Health (DOH) on Monday, June 29, 2020, reported anew an increase of about 1,000 in coronavirus infections in the country.

As of 4 p.m. Monday, DOH Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said they have confirmed an additional 985 cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).

This brought the total case count to 36,438 as of Monday.

Of the 985 additional cases, 643 were fresh cases while 342 were late cases.

Fresh cases are those positive test results that were released in the last three days while late cases are those that were released more than three days ago but were validated only in the last 24 hours.

Vergeire also reported an additional 11 mortalities, raising the death toll in the country from Covid-19 to 1,255.

Recoveries reached 9,956, including the 270 additional patients who were confirmed Monday to have recovered.

The National Capital Region (NCR) again registered more than 200 fresh cases on Monday.

Of the 643 fresh cases, 223 came from NCR or Metro Manila, 106 from Central Visayas and 314 from other regions.

Among the late cases, 96 came from NCR, 29 from Central Visayas and 217 from other regions.

Of the active cases, Vergeire said 23,451 were mild, 126 were severe, 26 were in critical condition and 922 were asymptomatic. (Marites Villamor-Ilano/SunStar Philippines)
