THE enrollment period in public schools for the incoming school year has been extended until July 15, 2020, Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque announced on Tuesday.

He urged parents, however, not to wait until July 15 to enroll their children.

“Pero huwag na po natin hintayin ang July 15. Ngayon pa lang, i-entroll na natin ang mga anak. Huwag po natin hayaang matigil ang proseso ng edukasyon ng mga anak bagama’t mayroong Covid-19,” he said in a virtual press conference Tuesday, June 30.

Citing Department of Education (DepEd) data, Roque said 15 million students have enrolled in public schools while over 672,000 have enrolled in private schools.

The government had expected over 27 million students to enroll before the original enrollment deadline on June 30.

To make sure that education remains unhampered amid the Covid-19 crisis, DepEd is implementing a blended learning scheme for the next school year.

DepEd Secretary Leonor Briones earlier said the department will heed President Rodrigo Duterte’s directive not to allow face-to-face learning sessions until a vaccine against coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) becomes available. (Jove Moya/SunStar Philippines)
