SIXTY-NINE employees of the Cebu City Government have been infected with Covid-19 from March to June 2020.

This is according to City Attorney Rey Gealon, spokesperson of Mayor Edgardo Labella, during his press briefing on June 30.

Of the 69 cases, four have died, the most recent of whom was Councilor Antonio Cuenco, just after Danilo Gabiana, former OIC department head at the City Hall.

Of those infected, 12 are from the Cebu City Health Department (CCHD), 19 are from the Emergency Medical Service, 33 are barangay health workers and some are from departments that are yet to be identified.

Those who tested positive and have yet to recover are still in isolation or home quarantine.

Of the four deaths, one was from the CCHD, one from the Department of Public Services, one was a barangay health worker and one was from the City Council.

It is still to be determined whether the death of former OIC City Treasurer Arlene Rentuza was due to Covid-19 or not.

Gealon said Labella was saddened that those infected by Covid-19 were all frontliners who were part of the city’s efforts to eradicate the virus. (PAC, CCP)
