Covid-19 cases in Cagayan de Oro now at 42

ANOTHER two locally stranded individuals (LSIs) and a returning overseas Filipino worker (ROF) are the latest coronavirus disease (Covid-19) cases in Cagayan de Oro.

This brought the total confirmed cases in the city to 42.

The first case is a 31-year-old male ROF from the Middle East who arrived in Manila on June 15, City Health Office (CHO) Epidemiologist Dr. Joselito Retuya reported on Wednesday, July 1.

He was swabbed for RT-PCR testing on the same day and the result came out negative.

The asymptomatic man, who has a permanent residence in Barangay Kauswagan, Cagayan de Oro City, traveled back to Cagayan de Oro on June 20. He was swabbed on June 27 and the result came out positive.

The other confirmed case is a 20-year-old male construction worker who was an LSI from Manila. He arrived in Cagayan de Oro on June 23 and has cold (sipon).

The man, who is a resident of Barangay Tablon, was swabbed on June 23 and the test result came out positive on June 30.

The third case is a 54-year-old male LSI from Cebu and a resident of Barangay Macabalan. He arrived in Cagayan de Oro on June 17 and is due to complete his quarantine period on July 1, Retuya said.

He was swabbed on June 29 and his test result on June 30 came out positive.

All of them are staying in the city isolation unit for Covid confirmed cases.

Meanwhile, Retuya shared additional information for the 32nd to 39th positive cases in Cagayan de Oro.

The 32nd case, a 68-year-old man from Zone 2, Barangay Agusan, remains to be asymptomatic. He is a close contact of the 44-year-old Covid-positive woman from the said barangay, he said.

The 33rd case, a 23-year-old woman who was an LSI from Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu and a resident of Barangay Bonbon, initially tested negative in the rapid diagnostic test conducted in Cebu, Retuya said. She arrived in Cagayan de Oro on June 20, was swabbed on June 26 and the test result on June 29 came out positive.

At present, the asymptomatic woman is staying in the Temporary Treatment and Monitoring Facility (TTMF).

The 34th case, a 32-year-old man ROF from Kuwait and a resident of Barangay Macabalan, has already tested positive for the virus after he was swabbed in Manila. He was transferred to Bulacan where he was swabbed again on June 15. The test result came out on June 17 and was negative.

He arrived at the Laguindingan Airport on June 20 and was swabbed on June 25. He tested positive.

The 35th case is a 23-year-old man who was an LSI from Cebu. He arrived in Cagayan de Oro on June 21, was swabbed on June 25 and his test result on June 29 came out positive.

The 36th case, a 37-year-old woman who was an LSI from Manila, is now being treated at the TTMF. She arrived at the Laguindingan Airport on June 20 and was swabbed on June 26. Her result came out positive on June 29.

The 37th case, a 36-year-old woman ROF from the Middle East and a resident from a gated community in Barangay Lumbia, remains to be asymptomatic, Retuya said.

She arrived from the Middle East to the Philippines on June 15. She was swabbed at the NAIA Airport on the same day. She arrived in Cagayan de Oro on June 19.

Retuya said they are still investigating where the woman was during the June 15 to 19 period.

At present, the 36-year-old woman is asymptomatic and is staying at the city isolation unit.

The 38th case, a 21-year-old man who is an LSI from Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu and a resident from a gated community in Upper Balulang, is at the TTMF at present. He arrived in Cagayan de Oro on June 20, swabbed on June 26 and the test result on June 29 came out positive.

The 39th case, a 24-year-old woman from Barangay Bulua, is a close contact and co-passenger of the Covid-positive case in Iponan.

She arrived in Cagayan de Oro on June 11 via sea trip. Retuya said the woman opted to undergo home quarantine. She was swabbed on June 25 and the test result on June 29 came out positive.

Retuya said five family members of the 24-year-old woman were brought to the city isolation unit and were swabbed. Their test results are still pending.
