Man on self-quarantine gunned down by uncle

A 36-YEAR-OLD mechanic who underwent self-quarantine for Covid-19 was shot by his uncle on June 29 at 4 p.m. in Purok Makugihon, Barangay Guadalupe, Bogo City.

Ernesto Catapan succumbed to the gunshot wound on his left temple.

Police identified Catapan’s assailant as Roger Catapan, a 55-year old farmer and the victim’s uncle.

The suspect eventually surrendered to police just hours after shooting Ernesto.

Police Staff Sgt. Joel Pino of the Bogo City Police Station told Superbalita Cebu that Ernesto was self-quarantining in a hut outside their home for a week since he arrived from Mandaue City.

But on Monday, Ernesto had a drink with his uncle.

During their drinking session, the two reportedly had an argument which eventually escalated after Roger angrily scolded Ernesto for coming home from the city even though he has Covid-19.

Angry over his nephew’s behavior towards him, Roger went back to his house, took out his air-powered rifle and shot Ernesto on his left temple.

Ernesto was immediately still taken to the hospital before succumbing to his wound the next day.

Roger told the police that he committed the crime because his nephew was constantly talking back to him when he confronted him about his situation.

He also said he and his nephew never had a good relationship.

The police are preparing homicide charges against Roger. (GPL, CBQ)
