THE Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) recorded a three percent increase in the number of Covid-19 cases from June 23 to 30, 2020.

In her weekly medical health update on Covid-19, Doctor Amelita Pangilinan, regional director of the Department of Health (DOH), said three additional cases were recorded during the period.

“For the Cordillera, the region recorded 113 confirmed cases having two deaths and a case fatality rate of two percent. The good news is we have 87 total number of recoveries or 77 percent, while the three new cases came from Baguio City and Benguet,” Pangilinan said.

Baguio City still has the highest cases with 46, followed by Benguet with 37, while Abra and Apayao have eight each, Kalinga with seven, Ifugao with six and Mountain Province with one.

“Our incidence rate stands at seven per 100,000 population while our case doubling time is at 14.29 days and our present critical utilization rate is at 29.55 percent, meaning, we are classified as moderate risk. There were more females that have been affected by the virus listed at 65.5 percent,” Pangilinan stated.

Pangilinan reminded the public to constantly practice minimum health standards to prevent the spread of the virus despite changes in the quarantine status and until a vaccine is found to treat coronavirus.

“Every individual must be responsible for protecting themselves, their families and the community while the employers adopt alternative ways for working. We know what to do now compared to two months ago because this is a novel virus. Upon lifting restrictions, we have observed a tremendous rise in the number of cases that have overwhelmed some healthcare facilities and healthcare systems but we should not feel helpless because the guidelines have already been laid down and everyone in the community, the local government units and chief executives and various health care providers are already aware of their roles and responsibilities,” Pangilinan added.
