EATING pineapple has its health advantages especially that the coronavirus disease still keeps up in infecting returning residents of the province of Negros Occidental and its capital city.

People have to boost their immune system to prevent Covid-19 from handily infecting the vulnerable sector.

Pineapple is one good fruit that is rich and loaded with vitamins and nutrients that comprise high amounts of vitamin C, manganese, dietary fiber, and bromelain, or an enzyme, a farmer at the Toreno Pineapple Plantation located at Barangay Bunga, Don Salvador Benedicto said.

But with this pandemic, there has been an oversupply of pineapple fruits at DSB considering that there are pineapple farm owners who export their harvest outside of the country but were disrupted due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

A pineapple farmer noted an oversupply of pineapple in the town.

The local consumers can only do so much and some supplies just even have gone to waste.

But since they already started planting before Covid time, they just have to manage the disposal of supplies as against those that cannot be disposed of.

But what was quite amazing was the ‘pineapple triplet’ among the pineapple yield in the field. This is uncommon and unique, said Mrs. Viola Toreno, owner of the pineapple farm.

"Our farmer saw the pineapple triples in the middle of the plantation and he sent it to me and I felt delighted to see it with leaves crowing the thorny fruits adjoining beautifully," she said. She considers the ‘pineapple triplet’ as God's blessing.
