Utzurrum: Zonta Club of Cebu 2 acts of mercy

FUN. Workshop time, to express friendship and camaraderie.

WHAT is a Communication Board? It is a simple, light and functional table for Covid-19 patients who can no longer speak or communicate with their doctors and nurses on how they feel. These are illustrated boards with questions like: “Are you hungry? Thirsty? Feel warm or cold? Are you in pain?” etc. The patient merely points to the illustration that expresses how or what he or she feels to be comfortable.

Recently, the Zonta Club of Cebu 2—in cooperation with Mind Bloom, an organization composed of teachers and educators—produced and distributed 50 sets of Communication Boards to the diffferent health centers and hospitals in Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu. The formal turnover was done at the office of Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Junard “Ahong” Chan and officials. Indeed appreciative of this humanitarian gesture was Mayor Ahong to the generous Zontians of Cebu 2.

No matter how functional, necessary and practical these boards are, we are hopeful the time will never come for anyone to need them! But like any Boy Scout would swear by, “Be prepared!”

Indeed ultra prestigious and hard to come by is the Emma Conlon Award of Zonta International. This Speclal Service Award is proudly given to the Z Club (student or junior Zonta members from schools) winner chosen from Z Clubs all over the world, for the project that best expresses Zonta’s current advocacies. This year, like in other years, it’s “No to violence against Women and Girls” and “No to Teenage Marriages and Pregnancies.”

With distinction and utmost profession, the Z Club of Childlink High School-Cebu was the only club in the Philippines that gave us the honor—second place at this international competition!

Congratulations are in order to Cebuana Zontian Theresa Tio, executive director of Childlink High School, for still another award to her collection!

Viva Childlink! Viva Zonta Club of Cebu 2!
