Comelec offices to undergo regular disinfection

ASIDE from its offices in Intramuros, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) said all its offices will also be regularly closed for disinfection to minimize the risk of coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) transmission.

"Field offices will also be closed for disinfection and decontamination as scheduled by the local government unit," Comelec said in an advisory Friday, July 3, 2020.

The poll body earlier announced that its offices in Intramuros will be closed to the public every Friday, beginning July 3, to give way to regular disinfection and decontamination activities.

Located in Intramuros are the Comelec main office at the Palacio del Gobernador Building; Comelec annex at the Shipping Center Building; the National Central File Division of the Election Registration and Statistics Department at the FEMII Building; and the offices of the regional election directors of National Capital Region (NCR), Calabarzon and Mimaropa, also at the FEMII Building.

Last month, the Comelec began its phased resumption of operations.

Under the phased resumption, the poll body said there will only be skeleton workforces in all Comelec offices in a bid to minimize the risk of Covid-19 transmission.

This means that teleworking or work-from-home arrangements will be implemented for at-risk employees.

As for those in the offices, the Comelec said they must always wear a face mask, frequently wash their hands or use hand sanitizers, and observe social distancing. (HDT/SunStar Philippines)
