Part of Apalit village under hard lockdown

A PORTION of Barangay Capalangan in Apalit town was put under hard lockdown due to six active cases of coronavirus disease (Covid-19).

Mayor Oscar Tetangco Jr. ordered the 14-day localized enhanced community quarantine in Purok 4 of the said village to contain the spread of the virus and allow efficient contact tracing.

According to Tetangco, the additional five cases are among the kin who had close contact with the 69-year-old patient who first tested positive for Sars-CoV-2 that causes Covid-19.

He said the test result of elderly patient was released on June 29, the actual day of town fiesta when the whole village was under six-day lockdown to prevent people from coming to Apung Iru shrine.

"We tested six of the family and relatives of the first patients as part of the initial contact tracing and results turned out positive for five of them," he said.

Tetangco assured that the elderly woman was taken into an isolation facility immediately after her results came in.

A barangay-wide disinfection and continuous contact-tracing are now being conducted to see if there are other individuals who may have interacted with the patients.

The mayor asked residents to immediately report to the local government if they or their families show symptoms of the disease, especially if they had recent contact with the newly-infected persons.

The recent development brought the total number of Covid-19 cases of Apalit to nine, with one mortality and two recoveries.
