Virus cases reach new single-day high at 1,531, exceed 40,000

THE Department of Health (DOH) on Friday, July 3, 2020, reported 1,531 additional cases of infection, a new single-day high since the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) outbreak began.

This brought the total number of COVID-19 cases in the Philippines to 40,336.

The DOH also reported that 400 patients have recovered, increasing the recoveries to 11,073. This is the highest number of recoveries reported in a single day.

Six more patients had died, raising the death toll to 1,280.

Among the newly-reported cases, 688 are fresh cases while 843 are late cases.

Fresh cases are those test results that were released and validated in the last three days.

Late cases are those that were released more than three days ago but were validated by the Epidemiology Bureau only in the last 24 hours.

Globally, as of July 3, there have been 10,662,536 confirmed cases of infection, including 516,209 deaths, according to the World Health Organization. (HDT/SunStar Philippines)
