MANILA - COCA-Cola Tigers’ Gary David, the player willing to take a backseat for other players, was named the first Accel Philippine Basketball Association Press Corps’ Player of the Week for the ongoing Fiesta Conference.

He won the award for being the most consistent local last week.

Asi Taulava and Chico Lanete led the Tigers’ two wins but it was the steady plays of David that fueled the team’s surge to the early lead in the import-flavored tournament.

Proofs of this are his 18 points that went well with 5 rebounds, 2 assists and as many steals.

David’s vigor also rubs off on his teammates.

“He is really living up to his moniker as ‘Mr. Pure Energy,’ said Coke coach Bo Perasol. “He gives us the necessary lift whenever we need it badly.”

David maintains he’s just willing to do anything he can for Coke and it just so happened it jives with his personal reason.

“Ang gusto lang naman naming lahat na mga players maipakita ang worth namin,” he said.

With David and his teammates fully jelled, Perasol expects his team to make a big rebound from their Philippine Cup showing, when the Tigers started out 0-3 before winding up seventh. (PBA Media Bureau)
