Farmers get livestock assistance from DA

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- Farmers from San Isidro Nueva Ecija received livestock assistance from the Department of Agriculture Regional Field Office III (DA-RFOIII).

DA-RFOIII, through its Livestock Program, distributed 20 heads of carabao and 20 heads of cows to the African Swine Fever (ASF)-affected hog raisers in San Isidro, Nueva Ecija on Wednesday, July 1, 2020.

The program was launched to provide an alternative source of income for backyard hog raisers affected by ASF, mostly in Central Luzon.

The agency has requested P200 million to buy poultry and livestock such as broilers, layers and raised chicken, goats, cows and buffalos.

Under the program, 400,000 broiler chicks, almost 23,000 layer chicken, more than 6,000 raised chicken, 2,000 goats, 2,000 cattle and 1,500 buffaloes are to be distributed.

As of July 1, the DA has awarded 344,000 broiler chicks, 500 ready to lay pullets, 2,800 raised chicken, 180 carabaos and 224 cows.

Meanwhile, the indemnity payment for those ASF-affected will resume in July 2020.
