Recycled bag maker joins Angeles OTOP store

ANGELES CITY -- A recycled bag maker from Barangay Claro M. Recto is the newest merchant who joined the Angeles City Government’s One Town One Product (OTOP) store.

Executive Assistant IV Reina Manuel said Elen Turla, 68, started bag making as a hobby in 2013 when she first used plastic straw as a material.

When her community learned about her creativity, she then started receiving orders where she incorporated her innovation by trying to use other recycled materials such as packaging of chips, milk and coffee, Manuel added.

The price range of her recycled handbags is from P100 to P350.

To date, Angeles City Economic Development Investment and Promotions Office officer-in-charge Irish Bonus-Llego said the OTOP store has other five micro, small, and medium enterprises, including WoodCraft by Madison; Belbel Muyano WoodCraft; Flores Handicraft; Tamayuq; and Chilona Fabrica.

Llego also said that Cutud Weavers and a water bonsai seller are set to join the OTOP store.

It can be recalled that Mayor Carmelo "Pogi" Lazatin, Jr. has waived the P500 per month administrative fee in the OTOP store to help local merchandisers recover from the effect of the coronavirus pandemic.

He is also promoting Angeleño products with a campaign of "Pasal-one, Angeleño pa!" (PR)
