Sanchez settles business case

VICE Gov. Gregorio Sanchez and a businesswoman have informally settled their differences and credited these to miscommunication.

Sanchez and businesswoman Selpha Trinidad, accompanied by lawyer Froilan Quijano Jr., met at the Office of the Vice Governor yesterday.

Both parties said they had agreed to settle before yesterday’s meeting.

Trinidad said she was forced to file the civil suit against Sanchez after four demand letters were left unanswered.

But Sanchez said he did not know that they are still payables because since 2004, he had been a full time vice governor.

Sanchez said he left management of Greg Cares Lacto Pafi to his eldest daughter Gigi.

Check

Sanchez issued a check worth P97,713 on Feb. 20, 2009 as last payment for a feed mill plant purchased from Trinidad.

“But my staff said that she (Trinidad) would not accept the check,” said Sanchez.

“On my part, I was not told that there was a check,” said Trinidad.

Sanchez called for a press conference to clear his name because he said that he was not even aware that a civil case was filed against him. The case was filed last Thursday and came out in the papers yesterday.

But Sanchez said he and Trinidad already agreed last Thursday to meet to settle the payment of the plant.

Sanchez said he was surprised why a case was filed against him, thinking that a settlement was in the works.

“I’m afraid of the timing because it’s election time,” said Sanchez.

Quijano explained though that the case was purely business, which is why the demand letters were sent to the Greg Cares Lacto Pafi office and not the Office of the Vice Governor.

Sanchez said he never received a demand letter.

“Only matters of critical decisions reach me,” said Sanchez.

Pleading

Quijano said he, in behalf of Trinidad, will file the necessary pleading to withdraw the case once the check to be issued by Sanchez will be cleared.

Specifics as to how much Sanchez would pay, if it would include interest and attorney’s fees, were not discussed in public.

Sanchez said it is a matter between him and Trinidad.

“We trust each other,” said Sanchez.

Trinidad also revealed that her husband is the nephew of Dr. Cora Lou Kintanar, a congressional candidate of the second district under the Liberal Party, which is Sanchez’s party as well.
