A LOT of us might find it hard to stay fit and fabulous during the quarantine period.

Some may say that the challenge comes from having more time to cook good food. And whenever there is a fix of a sumptuous meal, it is really hard to resist, right?

Meanwhile, age is another factor why some people have difficulty staying fit. The slow metabolism that comes with age is seen as one of the major culprits to keep the weight down.

There are several tips to help us with our journey towards achieving our ideal weight. This is not only to make us look better but also to become healthier.

For Rem Ortiz-Humangit, the woman behind Makai Swimwear, it is important to find time to exercise while being careful with your diet. And she definitely did “walk the talk.” From 70 kilograms a year ago to just 53 now.

“Family and self-love are the two main reasons why I am embracing the lifestyle that I have now. Situations made me realize that I need to be at my best self possible to function well, not only for myself but for the sake of my family, our dreams and goals in life,” she shared when asked about her motivation in embracing a healthy lifestyle.

To achieve her goal, she followed four steps.

“First, breaking old habits-out with the old, in with the new. Second, setting a realistic goal and keeping a positive mindset. Third, affirmation. Lastly, staying away from stress,” she said. “It's been a year now since I started doing boxing and core workouts. It helped me conquer my inner demons. It took out all the negative energy and made me become a better person physically and emotionally.”

She promised herself not to slide back to her old habits.

Rem cited boxing as a form of exercise since “it's a full-body workout, it burns fat, increases endurance, tone muscles, builds functional strength, self-defense and lastly, it's good for mental health.”

However, if boxing equipment is not available, shadow boxing can be considered. Also, we can do the recommended exercises by Chloe Ting and Holly Dolke. Their workout videos can help in “core strengthening, flexibility and balance.”

In the meantime, former media personality Lani Alagcan-Pajarillaga shared her concept of a healthy as “making a habit of doing good choices every day which revolves around nutrition, physical activities, skincare and mental and spiritual health.”

She admitted, though, that a lot has changed as she aged, including her weight. Thus, she needed to put in extra effort to keep herself fit and fab.

The former TV reporter, who is now based in the US, discovered a number of home exercises that she herself has proven to be effective.

“I do yoga, pound exercises, dance exercises, HIIT/low-intensity exercises! Big thanks to YouTube and I never run out of fun exercises to do! I was never a fan of exercising but the variety of exercises that I can choose from has helped me stick to it,” she said.

“My favorites would be Chloe Ting, MadFit (for fun dance exercises), Sanela of PsycheTruth for yoga and as for pound exercises, there is a lot! I just mix and match them daily! So much fun,” she continued.

To help her fight the “risk of sliding back,” she has gotten rid of all her old clothes.

“When my new ‘smaller’ clothes start getting tighter then that is a reminder. I also look at my old pictures and remember the times when I was feeling down, lousy and unhealthy! I don’t want to go back to that,” she pointed out.

These two ladies have one thing in common. They both believe that loving ourselves means looking after our health, too.
