BENEDICTO College responds to the current thrusts of the Department of Education (DepEd) to improvise online teaching through blended instructional methods, systems and faculty preparedness. The parents are likewise factors to make these feasible and effective. The school had crafted Bless (Blended Learning for the Enhanced and Safer Society), a teaching-learning method that responds to the Covid-19 pandemic and maintains quality education, through synchronous and asynchronous teaching-learning through digital technology. Thus, there will be twice-a-week physical class under the new norms protocol and the rest will be modular learning lessons at home. The synchronous method, an online class in real time, will be from nursery to grade 6 only. For all levels, the asynchronous method will be in the school’s E-classroom where the teacher and students perform the learning tasks, anytime at the latter’s convenient and safe time.

Benedicto College has been conducting teacher training, upgrading online facilities, crafting modular syllabi and grading system, upscaling the E-classrooms, consulting with parents and dry-running the effectiveness of Bless. The printed instructional materials, aside from books, for the physical class, will be picked up by parents or guardians in school under safe systems. The outputs of the modular activities will be submitted by parents, or, during the physical class, under the same safety measures.

The limited physical class will have safety measures like wearing of masks, 1.5 meter social-distancing, temperature check by the trained security guards, full sanitation of designated areas of learning and the entire school vicinity. Constant health tips and safety, and a “No Dine” policy will be strictly enforced. These innovative teaching and learning processes are not easy. The school had and will continue to invest time and logistics for these. The leadership of the school is vital to make things happen.

One mission of the school, envisioned by its president, ambassador Francisco Benedicto and family, is to provide quality education. This will be ably sustained in the midst of the Covid-19 dilemma through the cooperation of the school’s administrative and faculty staff, with the parents and students.

We commend all schools and families in Cebu for responding to the educational measures of the DepEd and the government.
