Homeowners file complaint against Comelec official

THE homeowners of Golden Crest Subdivision in Barangay Bata have lodged a complaint against Commission on Elections (Comelec) Commissioner Rowena Guanzon after she allegedly threatened the subdivision's guards.

Homeowners Association President Larry Decena, in a radio interview, claimed that the guards confronted Guazon's vehicle for using the subdivision's old stickers and she tried to force her way inside the subdivision.

After 30 minutes, Guanzon allegedly returned to the guards, started shouting at them and threatened them.

Guanzon then left. When she returned, she was now escorted by police.

Guanzon and Decena were then brought to Police Station 3 and both filed complaints against one another.

Members of the homeowners association also went to the station to file a separate complaint against Guanzon.

Decena added he is ready to face any case filed against him by Guanzon.

In response to the complaint, Guanzon denied Decena's allegations, stating she never threatened the subdivision's guards and she was never armed during the confrontation.

She explained that she was supposed to visit her sibling's home, which is located in the same subdivision but she was denied entry because her vehicle was using the old sticker.

Guanzon said she exited her vehicle and told the guard to recheck because the sticker is still valid until December of 2020 but the guard reportedly replied to "wait for his boss."

When Decena arrived, she claimed he was not wearing his face mask even though Guanzon told him to wear his mask correctly. Decena, however, did not listen and continued to approach and argued with her.

Guanzon also claimed that she did not know Decena was the president of the homeowners association and just introduced himself as the "general."

The Comelec commissioner said she will file charges involving the violation of the City's Executive Order 35 or the ordinance requiring individuals to wear their masks when outdoors, as well as a violation of the Bayanihan to Heal As One Act of 2020 for not following social distancing measures, claiming Decena continued to approach her even though she was backing up.

She also denied using her position as Comelec commissioner during the incident and believes Decena was intimidating her as the latter knows her position. She said she will never accept any settlement with Decena over the matter.
