Stricter border controls up in Masantol town

DESPITE the prevailing modified general community quarantine, the local government of Masantol is limiting the movement of people within the municipality as a precautionary measure against coronavirus disease (Covid-19).

This, as Masantol is the only town in Pampanga that remains Covid-free since the outbreak of the disease at the start of the year.

According to Mayor Danilo Guintu, policemen were re-deployed at the border checkpoints in town to monitor and control all individuals going in to the municipality.

"Since Saturday, only individuals who have essential business inside Masantol are allowed to go in. This includes but not limited to workers, especially frontliners," he said.

Guintu said the move is aimed at minimizing the threat of Covid-19 in the community, particularly the possible entry of the disease and its quick transmission among residents.

The mayor also urged Masantoleños who are working outside of the municipality to refrain from going home as much as possible to protect their families from the virus.

"The best way to protect your family is to refrain from going home as you may be a silent carrier of the virus. If you need to send cash, you can make use of money remittances for the mean time until situation gets better," he said.

He also appealed to residents to continue practicing good hygiene by regularly washing their hands and complying with all health protocols such as wearing of mask and social distancing at all times.
