Workers of City Gov’t to get hazard pay

AROUND 4,000 regular employees and job order and contractual personnel of the Mandaue City Government will receive P200 per day as hazard pay.

Mayor Jonas Cortes has signed the ordinance granting additional compensation to employees who continued to render services when the city was on enhanced community quarantine between March 30, 2020 and May 31.

However, the mayor’s executive secretary John Eddu Ibañez clarified that they will count the days the employee physically reported to work during the stated period.

Those who worked at home are not entitled to hazard pay, he said.

Hazard pay is exempted from income tax, Ibañez said.

He said qualified employees will get their hazard pay within this month.

Once the payroll is ready, they will immediately release it to the employees, Ibañez said.

The City thought it was important to grant hazard pay to employees, whom it considered as frontliners for risking their lives by reporting to work despite a health crisis.

The City Council approved the ordinance granting hazard pay to employees during its 50th session on June 24 yet. (KFD)
