REHABILITATION of Burnham Park will push through despite the ongoing pandemic.
Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong announced the Department of Tourism (DOT) is fully backing Burnham Park's rehabilitation despite the effects brought about by the coronavirus disease (Covid-19).
"We are now in close talks with the Department of Tourism and the Asian Development Bank For its rehabilitation funding. DOT Secretary Bernadette Puyat informed that despite the fact that the money for the rehabilitation was garnished for Covid-19 operation, it still fully supports our rehabilitation for Burnham Park because this was her commitment," Magalong said.
Assurance for the funding was based on the recovery and resiliency plan recently presented by the city to the members of the Tourism Promotions Board.
"She is looking for ways to secure funding for the rehabilitation and hopefully we can get this soon. Second is according to our Corporate Operations Officer Tonnete Aliones of the Tourism Promotion Board, they made the right decision after our virtual meeting where they were impressed with our recovery and resiliency plan to which Secretary Puyat assured the support of the tourism department," Magalong added.
Magalong said Baguio City, Boracay, and Siargao were the only three areas in the country that are being eyed to operate once the country shifts to the new normal, with the Summer Capital expected to receive P6 million to P7 million from the Tourism Promotions Board for marketing and tourism promotions of the city.
