Foreigners arrested for kidnapping in Pampanga

POLICE arrested on Tuesday, July 7, 2020, two foreign nationals who were allegedly responsible for the abduction of a Malaysian national in Pampanga.

Major Ronnie Lumactod, Philippine National Police (PNP) Anti-Kidnapping Group (AKG) spokesperson, said Indonesian national Rano Herman and Malaysian national Ong Way Plak were arrested during an entrapment operation at a parking lot of a mall in Barangay Malabanias around 3 p.m. Tuesday.

A Filipino, who allegedly served as their driver, was able to elude arrest.

Lumactod said the operation stemmed from a report from the Office of the Representative from the Embassy of Malaysia through Consul Abdul Samad Ismail that the suspects demanded 12,000 Chinese renminbi (more than P84,000) additional ransom from the family of their victim identified as Lee Jun Sheng.

The suspects personally received the ransom money during the operation which resulted in their arrest.

Their arrest also paved the way for the rescue of the victim, who was held in a dormitory in Angeles City.

Recovered pieces of evidence at the crime scene were one white Toyota Hi-ace van used by the suspects, ID cards and other personal belongings inside the vehicle.

The suspects are now detained at the AKG headquarters in Camp Crame while waiting for the filing of appropriate charges in court. (SunStar Philippines)
