Guv visits oil spill-affected villages, appeals to agencies

GOVERNOR Samuel Gumarin visited Wednesday, July 8, five of the barangays in the Municipality of Buenavista hit by the oil spill.

Gumarin personally inspected the damage brought by the oil spill in the villages of Navalas, Bacjao, San Miguel, Getulio and East Valencia.

"Dakog idang epekto sini nga oil spill sa mga pumuluyo naton sa mga apektado nga coastal areas. Kinahanglan naton ini sila buligan nga makabangon liwat," Gumarin said.

The number of barangays affected by the disaster has risen to 27 as of July 8, 2020, according to the data of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office.

Seventeen of these barangays are from the Municipality of Buenavista, eight from the town of Jordan and two from San Lorenzo.

Gumarin said the top priority as of the moment is to prevent the bunker fuel from spreading further on the shorelines of Guimaras.

"Ang ginapatigayon naton subong is to make sure nga indi na magdamo ang oil spill," Gumarin said.

The governor appealed to the concerned government agencies to assist the province in assessing the damaged brought by the incident.

"Nagapangayo kita bulig indi lang sang Ayala Corporation kundi sang iban nga branches kag departamento sang ahensiya sang gobyerno sa diin mabuligan ang probinsiya sang Guimaras to make sure nga ang amon assessment is true kag maka-compensate sa madula nga ekonomiya sang mga kabarangayan namon kag mga munisipyo," he added.

He said the Provincial Government of Guimaras will also assist the affected fisherfolk and families whose livelihood has been are affected by the oil spill.

"Ang probinsiya kag munisipyo we are looking kun paano namon mabuligan ang amon naapektuhan nga mga fisherfolk kag subong man ang mga families nga ara man sa barangay, indi man sila fisherfolk pero directly naigo sang trahedya diri sa probinsiya sang Guimaras," he assured. (PR)
