Newborn baby abandoned in Porac sand

PORAC -- A newborn baby was abandoned and left lying in rough sand in Barangay Pio on Tuesday, July 7, 2020, according to a report from the municipal government.

The baby, a female, was discovered at around 6 a.m. Tuesday by residents.

The baby was immediately brought to nearby Jose Songco Lapid District Hospital (JSLDH). Officers from the Municipal Welfare and Development Office (MSWDO) were immediately advised and upon checkup, said that the baby was healthy.

She was turned over to the custody of the municipal government. MSWDO staff are currently looking after the child.

The municipal government said that as part of current health protocols, the baby was subjected to a swab test. All known contacts of the child were also advised to undergo self-isolation while waiting for the results of the test as a precautionary measure.

The child and a social worker who serves as caretaker are currently housed at the Diosdado Macapagal Memorial District Hospital while awaiting test results.

The MSWDO office in Porac town is currently closed and will be subjected to disinfection.
