Sungduan: SI-Igorots

IN TIMES of crisis and calamity, the Soroptimist International Igorots based in Baguio City has always been ready to lend a hand to the needy community.

Amid the global pandemic situation, the group has been active in outreach efforts in the locality by providing relief goods to the different sectors affected by quarantine and lockdown.

Now, under the new leadership lead by president Lumina Peil, the organization is set to adopt a barangay in the Pines City where they will provide the necessary personal protective equipment needed by the frontliners.

"In times like this we need to help not just one sector but the whole community to help reduce the spread of the coronavirus," Peil stressed.

The PPEs to be provided to the adopted barangay will include surgical masks, globes, non-woven gowns, and head cover.

As the new president of the club, Peil intends to pursue more projects and programs for the welfare of the women in the locality and activities that will bring out the best for women which is what Soroptimist is all about.

Concerns for women empowerment, providing livelihood for women in barangays, and protection of the young girls from any crime are part of the top list of priority programs.

SI Igorots, a nonprofit organization for women is the youngest Soroptimist Club in Baguio City formed six years ago. It was chartered by SI Baguio.
