4 cops wounded in NPA attack in Misamis Occidental

FOUR policemen manning a quarantine checkpoint in Concepcion, Misamis Occidental were wounded in an attack staged by alleged communists on Friday morning, July 10, 2020.

Brigadier General Bernard Banac, Philippine National Police (PNP) spokesperson, said a report from the Police Regional Office in Northern Mindanao identified the four wounded policemen as Corporal Marvin Inton, Staff Sergeant Larry Millan, Corporal Leo Gumisad and Patrolman Ritchel Tañola.

They were manning an advance command post in Barangay Putongan at around 7:50 a.m. when alleged members of the New People’s Army belonging to Guerilla Front "Sendong" opened fire.

“Although wounded in the initial volley of enemy fire, four PNP personnel on duty at the quarantine control point took defensive positions and held their ground killing one of the attackers in the ensuing firefight,” he said.

“Members of the 1st Provincial Mobile Force Company of Misamis Occidental Provincial Police Office and soldiers from the Philippine Army immediately responded to the encounter site to provide reinforcement and blocking forces against the enemy,” he added.

The slain communist rebel has yet to be identified.

Banac said police and military security forces were in hot pursuit of the fleeing communist rebels.

PNP Chief Archie Gamboa, for his part, instructed Northern Mindanao PNP Regional Director Rolando Anduyan to ensure that the four wounded personnel will be supported with their medical needs. (SunStar Philippines)
