AFTER a green light to reopen the tourism in Cebu province, the local government unit (LGU) of Badian introduced its newest tourist attraction to boost the town's tourism industry.

Called as the Badian Highlands, it is a new view deck in the south and about 1,640 feet above sea level.

Donald Villarin, tourism officer for Badian, said that it officially opened to the public after the modified general community quarantine (MGCQ) took effect in the province last Friday, July 10, 2020.

"You can have the panoramic view of Tanon Strait and the Kanlaon Volcano in Negros Oriental. It is also a good point where to take sunrise and sunset photos," he said.

The newly-opened tourist attraction in Badian is for free and open to private vehicles as of the moment.

The new tourist attraction is a "No Build Zone" area, which means structures are not allowed.

"We open this site for sightseeing and to those who want to walk, jog, bike, and joy-ride with a view," he said.

To reach the Badian Highlands, vehicles will take the 13-kilometer road that covers barangays Poblacion, Taytay, Basak, Talayong, and Dobdob from the national highway.

Villarin is optimistic that Badian Highlands will help the town recover after the tourism industry suffered massive job and revenue loss because of the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) pandemic.

To recall, Badian suspended all tourism activities on March 13, 2020, as one of its measures to prevent the transmission of the coronavirus.

Badian is the home of popular tourist attractions in the southwestern part of Cebu province.

It is known for canyoneering, Kawasan Falls, Kadungaw Peak, Osmeña Peak, Lambug Beach, zipline, and floating cottages. (PR)
