Lanao del Norte logs first Covid-19 death

LANAO del Norte has recorded its first coronavirus disease (Covid-19)-related death.

Northern Mindanao Medical Center (NMMC) medical specialist Dr. Bernard Rocha said a 65-year-old female resident of Kauswagan, Lanao del Norte died on Wednesday, July 15.

The woman, Rocha said, is a watcher of her husband who tested positive for coronavirus.

According to the Lanao del Norte Inter-Agency Task Force for Covid-19, the 65-year-old woman's husband manifested symptoms of Covid-19, such as fever and coughing with a runny nose, on July 4.

On July 8 to 11, he was confined in a hospital in the municipality of Bacolod.

On July 12, the 65-year-old woman experienced shortness of breath. The couple was then brought to one of the hospitals in Iligan City where they underwent RT-PCR test and was confirmed Covid-19 positive.

The woman continued to experience difficulty in breathing and was admitted at the NMMC. She died in the early hours of July 15.

The Provincial Health Office of Lanao del Norte has identified one close contact of the couple who exhibited signs and symptoms of Covid-19. The close contact is currently in the province's isolation facility where he was being treated.
